On February 17th, 2004 the department placed a new engine into service as Engine 178.  This new piece of apparatus is unique because it is the first truck in the department's history to have an automated ladder/pike pole rack.  With the push of a button, firefighters can have access to a ladder and pike poles without manually pulling them down from the truck.  Here are some stats on the 2003 Pierce Dash:
