Radio Upgrades; Computers; Tabony Fire;Pictures Added
February 22, 2005: On Sunday February 20, Stations 16,17, and 160 (C) responded to a reported apartment fire in the 4400 block of Tabony (below). Crews found smoke coming from a two story brick complex and quickly contained the fire to one room...Later this year the radio system for every Jefferson Parish agency (except police) should receive and upgrade to their hybrid radio system. The system, currently a type 1 hybrid, will become a type two Motorola system. This is in preparation for the digital upgrades which will occur in the next couple of years...The JPFD is looking at its options and considering installing computers in their trucks and other vehicles. This system, which is similar to ones already in use in San Antonio, Texas and Waterloo, Iowa, would provide personnel with valuable information while responding to a call. Resolution for add on Midmount Goes Before Council
March 16, 2005: As reported on this site, a resolution went before the Council on March 2 for a third Ferrara Midmount Tower Ladder. That resolution passed. These three new ladders will replace ladders 137,177, and 187. They should all arrive by the beginning of this summer. Ladder 187 has been operating a reserve quint after its tower was damaged. Woman Saved from House Fire
July 5, 2005: Around 8pm Stations 16, 17, and DC 160 (C) were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 3900 blck, of Clearview. They arrived to find a one story brick house with heavy smoke issuing from the structure. After the initially searching the residence, firefighters found and brought out a 76 yr old female.

Wife of Arson investigator Hux Passes Away
August 23, 2005: Mrs. Connie Hux recently passed away after a long battle with Cancer. Departments from all across the area attended the services. I want to wish the Hux family the best during their time of sorrow.
Arson Fire Hits 4700 Jefferson Highway
August 23, 2005: On August 19th around 2am Stations 11, 19, and 160 (C) responded to a reported apartment fire in the 4700 block of Jefferson Highway. Firefighters encountered people jumping from 2nd story windows. Squad 169 was dispatched to the scene as well as 104. Officials believe the fire was set by an angry tenant.
Assistant Director Named; Future Plans
August 23, 2005: Mr. Dave Saunders has been officially named to the Assistant Director's position...The incident page has been updated with several new fires. Check out the On Scene Section to see them...The vehicles page has been updated to reflect the current status of several new staff vehicles. Click here to see it...The retired apparatus (under Extra Alarms) page has been updated to reflect the current status of vehicles...One of the new Ferrara Tower Ladders was shown at the Fire Rescue International which was held from August 15th-21st. The three new tower ladders should enter service within the next month or so...A new Ford Expedition has been ordered for the head of Fire Prevention. Two new Ford Crown Victorias are currently being outfitted with lights and numbers for the Public Information Officer and Safety Officer...A new rescue squad has been ordered. It will most likely come from Ferrara as they are part of LaMas which basically allows Louisiana departments to easily purchase products from in state companies. This move has set the tone for the eventual return to the two squad system which existed in the 90's when squads 139 and 159 were both in service.

August 23, 2005: On August 20 Engine 198 and Squad 169(A) helped to collect money for the muscular dystrophy association. Firemen, such as Op. Tassin posing for the camera (above, left), asked Wal-Mart shoppers in Harahan to donate money to this worthy cause. Overall the drive was a success.
New Ladders; Two Squad System
November 4, 2005: Due to extensive damage to the Joseph S. Yenni building caused by Hurricane Katrina, the main office for the JPFD has been relocated to three mobile trailers located next to Station 13. The Fire Prevention and Arson Divisions of the department have been allowed to return to one of the three floors that have reopened at the Yenni Building.
November 4, 2005: A Picture of the Director's 2005 F-150 has been added to the vehicles page. Click here to see it...Pictures of the new ladder trucks have been added to stations 13 and 17. Click the Divisions link to see them...Pictures from Cleveland Place, the Hurricane Katrina Evacuation, Elvis Ct, and one other house fire have been added to the On Scene Page...The department has finally received three new Ferrara Inferno 100' Mid-mount Tower Ladders. These trucks replace Ladders 137, 177, and 187. The retired trucks will most likely be sold to Ferrara. Check out Extra Alarms to see the new trucks...For the first time since the 1990's, the JPFD has returned to the two squad system. Planned before but implemented during Hurricane Katrina, the two squad system is reminiscent of when squads 139 and 159 were in service. Currently Squads 159 and 169 are in service. Plans are in place to replace Squad 159, a 1992 Pierce Lance, with a new Ferrara Squad.
November 4, 2005: Around 8:30pm on October 1st Stations 15, 18, DC140 and AC102 responded to a reported fire at the location of the old Moby Dick's Bar at Vets. and Aurora Ave. First arriving companies found heavy fire coming from the rear of a one story structure. Additional companies were called to the scene to help extinguish the blaze.
Station 14 Closed; Station 15 Opening?
November 4, 2005: No official word has been given on what Station 14's fate will be; however, it is likely that the station will have to be completely razed and rebuilt. Currently, Engine 148 is operating out of Station 11 until a permanent location can be found for it. Station 14 was one of two stations that had to be shut down because of water, but it is now the only house that is currently shut down...The official grand opening of the newly built Station 15 which was expected to open in early October has been pushed back indefinitely.
November 4, 2005: These pictures show the remnants of only a few fires that the JPFD had to contend with in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The top photo shows businesses in the 2700 block of Jefferson Highway, and the bottom picture shows two homes on Ruffin Place. This storm helped firefighters to appreciate having a steady supply of correctly pressured water from city hydrants on any other normal day.

November 30, 2005: At the latest Parish Council meeting a resolution was presented and passed which allowed the department to rent the lot which currently holds the 3 mobile trailers for up to one years with the possibility of adding on additional months after the first years has expired...Pictures have been added from the Pawn Shop/ Daiquiri fire in the 2700 blck. of Jefferson Highway on August 30, the Cleveland Place fire, and from the construction site for the new station 15. February 14,2005: On December 15,2004 Station 19 (B) responded to a reported car crash at Elmwood Park Blvd. and Jefferson Hwy (right). The driver sustained no injuries...Pictures have been added from the Christmas Eve 2 alarm on Toby Lane. One Car Accident; Pictures Added
April 18, 2005: On Saturday April 16th, firefighters responded to a fire in a two story woodframe house...The frames have been constructed for the 3 new tower ladders.
