I have a broken fire hydrant on my street. Who can I contact to have it fixed?
While the department regularly inspects hydrants, it is up to the Jefferson Parish Water Department to repair them. If you know that a hydrant does not work or needs maintenance on the eastbank of Jefferson Parish, please contact the Jefferson Parish Water Department at 736-6050.

How can I become a firefighter?
You must first register for and pass the written Firefighter's Entrance Exam which is administered by The Louisiana Office of State Examiner. Other qualifications include: Be a United States citizen who is at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, have a valid Louisiana Driver's License, have registered for selective service (males 18 and over), pass several face to face interviews, and finally pass a physical endurance test to be considered for rookie school. Rookie Classes are formed on an as needed basis.
What should I do if I see an emergency vehicle approaching?
In accordance with Louisiana Revised Statute 32:125, you must pull to the right hand side of the road, and remain parallel with the road until the emergency vehicle has fully passed. The emergency vehicle's operator has been trained to pass on your left and will do so after you have yielded to the right.
