The Monument
I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place,
Ala my name no more my face.

"In the line of duty" I hear them say;
My family now the price will pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And I pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee;
I ask for all here in the past,
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Every year fallen firefighters from the Parish of Jefferson are honored in a memorial service at Memorial Park located in the neutral grounds at the corner of Veterans Boulevard and Causeway Boulevard.  The Park also honors fallen police officers and military personnel.  Click here to see Remembering a Firefighter, a story which was printed on the back of the program for this ceremony.  (All pictures (right hand column) taken by Mr. Dennis Guidry were donated courtesy Joe Klumpp. Mr. Klumpp also provided the firefighter story from the back of service's program. Thank you.)
